Improvement of Insight in an Alcoholic Inpatient by Scriptotherapy
Jun Soo-Mi

Abstract
Scriptotherapy brings a positive improvement to self-concept, self-insight and encouragement through the process of self-awareness, self-acceptance and frank self-openness. It is the key therapeutic variable in the recovering and rehabilitation of the addiction treatment and is being already studied in other countries as an useful treatment tool, but not at all in the social welfare circles in our country. Thus, in this study we provided scriptotherapy for the inpatients and evaluated the effectiveness in the phase of intervention using AB design of a single case study design. The inpatients in the study participated in the 3-week baseline phase and 6-week intervention phase and for all 9 weeks, the intention of premature termination, which is the variable related to the Improvement of insight, and the level of self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-openness were measured repeatedly. Also, a pre-test/post-test design was conducted with HAIS(Hanil Alcohol Insight Scale) in order to validate the results of the measurement. The collected data were analyzed using ¡¯Three-Standard Deviation Band Approach¡¯ of the statistical analysis method by the SINGWIN program. As a consequence, the results of significance were all shown in the measurement of a dependent variable. It is reported that insight level has changed from 0-point poor insight to 18-point good insight in the pre-test/post-test design. I anticipate that this study will be the starting point for the development of a variety of scriptotherapy in the addiction programs and ongoing research on its effectiveness will be of help to the alcoholics¡¯ recovery.
